Public Schools teach children (that includes us adults who went through them) to think a like. This is why Hitler insisted all children in his country attended public school. He wanted a uniform product that could be uniformly controled. All tyrants do.
Freedom requires just that; freedom to be be different. That can only come from unique, individualized education.
